“While so many of the bodybuilders we see on TV and in magazines are on steroids the truth is that the majority of bodybuilders are actually natural.
That might sound bizarre given that steroids and bodybuilding seem to go hand in hand. In fact, your average everyday guy (who doesn’t lift) thinks anyone with a bit of muscle is on steroids.
While every gym has a few guys who just look disproportionately large (all upper body, no legs) they only make up a small percentage of the total population (unless you work out at Muscle Beach). So while you might think that half the gym bags in the changeroom are packed with needles the truth is that most people don’t use them.
The problem is that people will often compare themselves to guys who are taking steroids. They get frustrated that they can’t achieve such impressive physiques and feel that if they aren’t going to use steroids then they might as well not even bother.
Well, just because you aren’t using steroids doesn’t mean you can’t make impressive gains.

Check out our tips below on how you can get the most out of your natural program.
1 – Stop Comparing Yourself to Guys Taking Steroids
This one is very important. If you are currently working out at a gym that is filled only with guys who are on steroids you might want to look at switching gyms.
We’re not saying you should switch to planet fitness and eat pizza while you do back extensions. Instead, find a gym in your area with lots of people who are in good shape but don’t do steroids.
It won’t be hard to figure out – just go on a tour of the facility and look at the guys working out there. It’s easy to be caught up in steroids vs non steroids so if you are in a gym where the trainees are also natural you will remove that distraction.
Having said that, it’s still good to have guys who are in better shape than you so you have something to compare yourself to – just make sure you are comparing yourself to other natural lifters.
Similarly, if you want to compete in a show make sure it’s against other natural lifters.

2 – Lift Heavy and Eat Clean
A lot of guys blame their lack of gains on the fact that they are natural lifters. The truth is they are just making excuses for themselves.
Their diets are usually bad, they do nothing but isolation exercises (if they even manage to make it to the gym) and they drink a lot of booze. If your workout involves showing up at the gym and doing whatever exercises look good you won’t make it very far.
You have to be disciplined about setting up and following a good workout program. That means focusing on compound free weight exercises like deadlifts, squats, bench press, pull-ups and rows.
These are the exercises that will put on the most mass and allow you to properly overload the muscles.
Similarly, you need to track your diet – every calorie that you consume – to make sure you are eating a proper calorie surplus. If you don’t track calories you will have no way of knowing if your lack of gains is due to nutrition or something else.
We won’t turn this into a diet article because there are plenty of good articles on this site to get you started there. Just make sure you are getting at least 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight and limit your consumption of sugar and processed foods.
Finally, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to rest and sleep.
Your body releases the most testosterone while you are sleeping so if you are only getting 5 hours of sleep per night your gains will suffer.

3 – Keep up with the steroid users with natural supplements
how to be successful natural bodybuilder
Use safe and natural supplements
We’ve talked about this before in our ultimate guide to getting jacked faster. We’ve been getting a lot of great feedback from our free article from guys thanking us for the help. You can read it here.
Whey protein powder is great for after your workouts. It’s fast-digesting so it will deliver nutrients to your muscles when they need it most – after a difficult workout. BCAAs and creatine are also staples in the diets of most bodybuilders.
However, the most important thing you want to look into is a natural testosterone booster.
Unlike all the other muscle building blogs, we here at BroScience keep it real with you. Every year thousands of bodybuilders around the world inject themselves with synthetic hormones. Do you know why they do it? To boost their testosterone levels.
But taking steroids is dangerous, illegal and it can come with nasty side-effects such as man-boobs (bitch-tits)
Besides the supplement industry has already developed safe and natural testosterone boosters. These products use a variety of all-natural ingredients that are scientifically proven to boost testosterone levels. As a result the gains you make will be sustainable and there are no nasty side-effects. To see which ingredients to look for: see our guide on test boosters here.
Plus you get to keep your gains, unlike the heavy steroid users who lose most of their muscles once they stop taking them.
Before you go out to buy a test booster you have to do some research and find out which ingredients actually work. Because some companies are putting ineffective fillers in their supplement, which are really just a waste of your money.
We spent over two months researching test boosters and their ingredients. And because we spent so much energy on it we’re thinking whether we should start charging for it, simply because it will save you hundreds of dollars anyway.
But at least for now you can read it for free here: Read our report on testosterone boosters here.
If you aren’t already taking a testosterone booster than you are seriously selling yourself short!

4 – Believe That You Will Get Big
If you show up every day to the gym with a negative attitude you won’t get far. You need to believe that you can and will put on some serious mass.

Challenge yourself to lift more weight or do more reps compared with your previous workout. If you don’t silence the negative voices in your head they will make sure you don’t succeed.
Then you will be one of those bitter, out of shape guys that hates on every successful, aesthetic person you see.

Conclusion
We aren’t going to lie – being a natural bodybuilder is a more difficult road than being a steroid-user. Having said that, you won’t be subjecting yourself to the nasty side-effects of steroids like balding and acne.
You will also be glad in the long run that you didn’t set yourself up for health complications as you age. If you are committed to putting in the work anyone can build themselves a physique that is in the top 1% of the population.
Just make your t-levels are good and you’re well on your way. Read our t-levels report here.
So stop complaining about who has it easier and get out there and get to work! You know exactly what you need to do.
